This World is Not My Home
By Abraham Wright
Recently our family moved into a new house closer to the church. We are thankful to be closer to our church family! Moving reminds me how much time it takes to get adjusted. But within a few months, we should all be settled in and comfortable in our new home. Settling in reminds me of something we should be careful to do when it comes to this earth. Notice what Paul writes in Colossians 3:1-4:
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” Colossians 3:1-4.
This verse doesn’t mean we can’t get settled in a house on this earth or even enjoy certain things in this life. However, it does seem to express a sense of not getting too comfortable in this life, so we lose sight of our true home. Heaven is a real place, and Jesus is preparing a place for each of His followers (John 14:1-6). May God help us not get too comfortable in this temporary life as we look forward to our heavenly home.
