A Heart for Missions

by Heather McAnear

I have been a member of Council Road for more than 25 years. Although some things have changed, like the color of carpet in the Worship Center, the most important things have remained the same: loving God and loving others.

Each week during the “Mission Moment,” we get to hear highlights of some ways our church is loving, serving and sharing the Gospel. I am continually amazed by the far-reaching impact of CRBC. You may not realize how unusual it is to be connected to as many ministries as we are, so let me assure you, our church is different in the best way!

God’s word is very clear about what He considers the most important things:

“He has told each of you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).

“He said to him, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:37-39).

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).

“Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world” (James 1:27).

When I read these passages and think about the many ways our church is reaching the lost and ministering to others, I can clearly see the heart of God reflected in the work we do.

As we get to the end of missions month, I hope you are far from the end of asking God to cultivate a heart for missions in you. Consider asking Him how you can join the work God is already doing through one of our mission partnerships. How can you continue to give generously to His causes? How can you dedicate time to pray regularly for our church, the missionaries on the field and the ministries reaching marginalized and hurting people?

As a member of CRBC, you have the privilege of being an active part of Kingdom work, whether you ever travel to another country or walk through the doors of our partnerships. You are part of the work of God’s spirit, because you are part of this body of Christ. Thank you for following in His footsteps, for His purposes.
